Sara Cartwright Art Profile
"As a self taught artist, I have always loved drawing even from a young age. One of my very earliest memories is drawing with my paternal great grandmother who was a brilliant oil/acrylic artist. I have used watercolour and graphite to complete works for friends and family but it was only fairly recently (2018/19) where I gained my love of colour pencils - the immediacy of the effects with layering and detail - and began to hone my skills.
My love for the countryside and everything found within it came from the other side of my family. I always loved to go to my grandparent’s dairy farm as a child in West Cornwall and help my grandfather milk and check the cows or sit on the tool box in his old tractor and tag along for feeding. I would then follow my uncle and Auntie around checking the sheep that he kept on the farm or picking/planting vegetables. I also discovered my absolute passion and ultimate love for horses - the first subjects for my drawing. All of this I have carried into adult life.
I am lucky enough to be living in an idyllic part of South Devon with my family, my horses, dogs, cats, chickens and a small flock of Greyfaced Dartmoor Sheep. I have even worked on farms driving tractors and shearing sheep! So in short, art and the country are deeply embedded in my blood and play a huge part in inspiring my art work. As I grew in experience, I began to do commissions for friends and family covering a range of animals and even some vehicles, and with recommendations, I have been able to reach a wider audience. I feel very fortunate to be able to share my work with an increasing number of people."
